Sixty Can recently started an integrated nail salon franchise business called Daily Nail, seeing that more Thai women - influenced by female stars of the screen - now tend to decorate their nails.
Managing director Nitima Kiatwateeratana said yesterday she had started the business three months ago and already has two branches in Bangkok. Sixty Can is negotiating with four business owners who are interested in being franchisees: one at Gaysorn, two on Koh Samui and one in Chiang Mai.
There are three main businesses in each shop: acrylic nail decoration (the main revenue source), nail treatments, and equipment sales such as nail lacquers, hand cream and hand scrubs. Service fees range from Bt200 to Bt2,000.
All nail colours, lacquers and related products are supplied by OPI, which chose Sixty Can as its special trade partner. OPI is an American manufacturer of nail products.
Each shop requires at least 40 square meters and a Bt1.2-million investment. Break-even point is 18 months, Nitima said.
The company expects to have up to 20 branches nationwide: 60 per cent are expected to open in major cities in all regions, and the rest in Bangkok.
Nitima said in the past, only high-end customers would spend money for the care and decoration of their nails but international and local actresses have influenced the behaviour of women of all financial statuses. Hence, she is optimistic that starting with a service fee at Bt200 is not too expensive for people in the provinces.
Customer targets are middle-class women and university students.
The marketing budget next year is Bt10 million, to be spent on road shows to promote Daily Nail, advertising though various media channels and giving scholarships to those who are interested in a nail-care career.
Sixty Can expects an accumulated Bt8 million in sales next year.
