IN BRIEF
Setback for Thai stars

Thai players' preparations for the Asian Games next month came to a premature end as they bowed out in the second round of the US$25,000 Kia International Challenger in Kawana, Australia, yesterday.

Top seed Danai Udomchoke was knocked out by German qualifier Sebastian Rieschick 6-3 6-2 while Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana were stunned by the Australian pair of Andrew Coelho and Samuel Groth in the doubles 6-4 7-6 (7-3). The trio, whose season on the pro circuit is over with the defeats, will return to Thailand to join Paradorn Srichaphan in training for the Asian Games at the Rama Gardens Hotel. Paradorn, who won the singles gold medal in Busan four years ago, started practising on Monday. The Thai ace has finished an ultrasound treatment on his injured right wrist, which kept him away from the courts for almost two weeks. - The Nation.
