Democrat's White Paper on Thaksin govt's alleged corruption

The Democrat Party is about to publish a book revealing 44 graft scandals involving deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his administrations during their five years in power, a deputy party leader said Thursday.

Alongkorn Pollabutr said the party would hand over the book to the Council for National Security, the Assets Examination Committee and Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to facilitate further investigation.

About 10,000 copies in Thai and English would be distributed to the public, he added.

The graft scandals claimed by the Democrats are divided into four categories:

Exploiting government policies to benefit businesses of the Thaksin family:

 Allowing the ExportImport Bank to loan Bt4billion to Burma

 Ordering the Board of Investment to exempt tax from the Bt16billion project of IPStar satellite

 Giving a Bt17billion reduction to iTV station for its concession granted by the government

 Cancelling import tax imposed on mobile phones

 Supporting the operation of lowcost airlines to benefit Thai AirAsia

 Encouraging spendingspree schemes to benefit Capital Ok

 Issuing an excise decree freeing mobilephone operators from paying concession fee

 Unfairly allocating shares of PTT Plc

Scandals involving construction of Suvarnabhumi Airport

 Bt2.6billion CTX bomb detector project

 Bt1.3billion roof construction

 Bt4billion concession for supplying electricity and operating airconditioning system

 Bt534million concession for providing trolleys

 Bt607million concession for collecting garbage

 Concession for operating restaurants for airport workers
