EC did not abuse power: Sodsri

The Election Commission (EC) did not intend to abuse its power when it nominated the wife of one of its commissioners to sit on the National People's Assembly (NPA), an EC member said yesterday.

Sodsri Satayatham said she was unhappy with the news that alleged her EC colleague Somchai Jungprasert had nominated his wife Wilawan to become a member of the 100-member NPA.

She insisted that Somchai was not involved as she herself had picked Wilawan under the EC quota of five candidates among the 2,000 for her solid work record as a doctor.

If the nomination was inappropriate, she alone should be blamed.
