PM picks two more ministers

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has sought His Majesty the King's endorsement for the appointment of two more ministers to the interim Cabinet, government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp confirmed last night.
The two new Cabinet members are PM's Office Minister Prasith Kowilaikul and Deputy Finance Minister Sommai Phasee, according to Yongyuth. The new appointments will increase the number of the Surayud Cabinet ministers from 26 to 28. A source said Finance Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula handpicked Sommai to help him handle an "overload" of work. Sommai is a former deputy permanent secretary of the Finance Ministry and a respected tax expert. He is now chairman of the Thai Military Bank. For Prasit, the interim government needs his expertise to support its handling of legal affairs, the source said. Prasit, once served as dean of Chulalongkorn University's law faculty. He is now rector of Huachiew University.
