Two bombs were detonated by mobile phones outside a coffee shop in Nartathiwat downtown filled with patrons in the morning, killing one of them and injuring 19 others.

The other bomb was detonated by a wire in an ambush against an army patrol unit in Sungai Padi district.

The five soldiers were patrolling a rural road in Tambon Toteng at 6:45 am when a 15-killogramme homemade bomb hidden under the dirt road exploded.

Officials found a wire led to a bush nearby where militants hid in wait of the patrol unit and detonated the bomb.
