Tamarine, Nudnida in round 2

Top seed Tamarine Tanasugarn and compatriot Nudnida Luangnam stormed into the second round of the US$75,000 (Bt2.85 million) Gram Cup Taiwan Ladies Open in Kaohsiung by crushing their rivals in straight sets yesterday.
Tamarine dropped just three games while crushing Briton Katie O'Brien 6-0 6-3. Nudnida, coached by Panomkorn Pladchuanin, needed a game more than her compatriot to oust Taiwanese Hsuan Hwang 6-0 6-4. Tamarine next meets Japanese teenager Ryoko Fuda who beat her 6-2 6-0 in Mount Gambier, Australia, last year. Nudnida will play Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, who upset second-seeded Vasilisa Bardina of Russia 6-4 6-2. In Pune, India, second-seeded Montinee Tangpong overcome a first set deficit to beat Indian wildcard Krushmi Chheda 5-7 6-1 6-4 in the first round of the US$25,000 Poona Club clay tournament yesterday. But countrywoman Nungnadda Wannasuk, who has a distaste for clay, lost to Indian qualifier Madura Ranganathan 6-2 6-3. In Port Pirie, Australia, Suchanan Viratprasert snapped her losing streak by beating Australian Lisa D'Amelio 6-1 6-1 in the US$25,000 Kia Pro-Circuit.
