Govt to propose flood rehabilitation plan

Fifteen provinces are still affected by flooding and Bt364 million had been spent on flood-relief efforts in the worst affected areas, said Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp yesterday.
The Cabinet meeting was informed that - of the affected 47 provinces - flooding conditions in 32 provinces had eased while large areas in 15 provinces remained submerged including Phitsanulok's Bang Rakham district, Nakhon Sawan's six districts, Sing Buri's six districts and Ayutthaya's 15 districts, Yongyuth said. Other affected districts were in Phichit, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Angthong, Lop Buri, Sara Buri's Don Phut district, Suphan Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Pak Kred districts, Nakhon Pathom and 12 districts in Bangkok. The Royal Irrigation Depart-ment's had installed 995 water pumps while the Disaster Preven-tion and Mitigation Department sent 642 officers to assist victims. Compensation for 180 deaths amounted to Bt4.77 million and flood-hit provinces had spent Bt364 million in assistance, said the government spokesman. The Interior Ministry will propose a working plan for flood rehabilitation on Friday, Yongyuth said. Meanwhile, Lt-General Banyat Damrongphao and head of inspector generals at the PM's Office Theerapat Santimethineedol, were yesterday briefed by Angthong Governor Wiboon Sanguanphong on flood-relief efforts and rehabilitation to be completed in three-months time. The two also inspected the contruction of a disaster victims' shelter on a 76-rai plot in Muang district.
