Toyota on top for pickup sales

Car sales dropped four per cent in the first 10 months of this year as a result of high oil prices and severe floods in 40 provinces around the country.
Remarkably, Toyota Motor Thailand took over the number one position in the 1-tonne pickup truck market for the first time in decades, ousting long-time leader Isuzu. Data compiled by Tri Petch Isuzu Sales showed that a total of 539,000 vehicles were sold from January to October. Toyota was the overall leader, selling 227,829 units equivalent to 42 per cent of the market. Second was Isuzu, which sold 136,701 units, equal to 25 per cent of the market. Third was Honda with 52,888 vehicles sold - a 10 per cent market share. In the industry's largest segment, the 1-tonne pickup truck market, a total of 336,124 vehicles were sold. Toyota sold 128,745 units giving it a 38-per-cent market share, while Isuzu came a close second with 126,604 trucks sold, also about 38 per cent of the market. Mitsubishi was a distant third with 21,868 vehicles sold or 6.5 per cent of the market.
