Boardroom coup: Premier defends appointment of military officers to state enterprises

Interim Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont yesterday defended the decision to appoint military officials to the boards of state enterprises, after heavy criticism from former premier Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.
Surayud said appointees were competent to carry out their duties."For instance, the air force chief can achieve a lot on the board of Thai Airways because many of his former subordinates work there. He can reduce management problems,'' he said. Surayud called on the critics not to assume that military officials were incompetent. "Give them time to prove themselves. Do not jump to the conclusion that they are going there to accept money,'' he said.
