No decision on lifting martial law : PM

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said his cabinet did not discuss lifting martial law at its weekly meeting Tuesday, despite earlier signs that a decision could come this week.
Surayud said the cabinet was waiting for the Council of National Security (CNS) to make its recommendation on ending martial law, which was imposed shortly after the September 19 coup e'tat.
"There was no discussion about martial law in the cabinet meeting today (Tuesday)," he said.
Surayud said the cabinet would take a decision only after the CNS makes its own recommendation, but gave no indication of when that might happen.
"The cabinet has to wait for the CNS' advice, we don't have enough information to decide on our own," he added.
On Monday, Defence Minister Boonrawd Somtas said Monday he believed a decision would be made within days, before Surayud attends Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Hanoi on Sunday.
Surayud said he did not believe that the coup or the continuation of martial law would affect the country's diplomatic standing at the meeting.
"This issue will not be raised at the cabinet meeting," he said.
