Thai Tritons bound for Malaysia

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is confident of increasing its 4X4 double-cab pickup-truck market with its latest 2.5-litre turbodiesel intercooled Triton.
CEO Fumihiko Minami said on Thursday the company was targeting to sell 200 units of the Triton, which would be imported from Thailand. "The Mitsubishi Triton is based on a rally-honed four-wheel-drive system and is even more powerful than any pickup trucks of its class in Malaysia," he claimed at the media preview of the vehicle in Sepang. The competitive pricing, futuristic looks, roomier interior and robust built of the Triton would win new customers, he said. "Its car-like comfort level coupled with a powerful newly developed direct-injection hyper-common-rail engine would appeal to a wider segment of buyers," he said. Prior to the Triton's formal launch on November 20, the four-speed automatic version of the vehicle is estimated at 93,000 ringgit (Bt942,500) and the five-speed manual variant at 88,000 ringgit. Although the Triton will replace the older 4X4 Mitsubishi L200 pickup model in Malaysia, Mitsubishi Malaysia will continue to sell the 4X2 version of the L200. The Triton also comes with dual front air bags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and side impact bars for better safety. The Star, Asia News Network, SEPANG, Malaysia
