Cabinet gives nod to major bureaucratic reshuffle

The military-backed Cabinet yesterday approved a big shake-up of top bureaucrats.
Some high-ranking officials have been demoted to relatively unimportant posts. The Labour Ministry sees its Employment Department director-general Chuthathawat Intarasuksri promoted to ministry permanent secretary. Noppadol Hengcharoen has been made an adviser to minister Apai Chandanachulaka. At Justice, ministry inspector Paisarn Vichitkua replaces Chujira Kongkaew as director at the Juvenile Observation and Protection Department. Chujira was demoted to inspector. Rights and Liberty Protection Department director-general Charnchao Chaiyanukij finds himself an inspector and replaced by former inspector Suwana Suwannachuta. Legal Execution Department director Sirawat Chantarat was transferred to an inspector's position. At the Office of the Prime Minister, Pramote Ratthavinit, a former inspector, replaces Public Relations Department director-general Dusadee Sinchirmsiri who moves to an inspector's office. The deputy permanent secretary of the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, Chalermsak Vanichsombat, becomes the new director-general of the "problematic" National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department. The department had been accused of serving "political" interests in the past. Groundwater Resources Department director-general Vichai Leamvilai is the new director-general at the Royal Forest Department. A ministry source said the transfers met conditions imposed by minister Kasem Sanidwong na Ayudhaya who wanted "neutral people with expertise in the environment" in charge of senior roles. Ministry deputy permanent secretary Apichai Chawacharoenphan is now boss at Mineral Resources while fellow deputy permanent secretary Nisakorn Kositrat takes the director-general's role at Marine and Coastal Resources. Pollution Control Department director-general Monthip Srirattana Tabuganon becomes head of Environmental Quality Promotion.
