Thappline expects big jump in revenues

Thai Petroleum Pipeline (Thappline) expects its revenues to rise 25 per cent this year to Bt1.8 billion, thanks to a 20-per-cent increase in capacity from the new Map Ta Phut-Sri Racha pipeline.
"Now we can accommodate the transmission of an additional 1.2 billion litres a year from Rayong Refinery and Star Petroleum Refining," managing director Jakchai Bhalee said yesterday. Before , the pipeline ended at Sri Racha in Chon Buri province and was fed only from the Thai Oil and Esso refineries. The transmission volume has now risen to 70-80 per cent of capacity, or about 10,000 million litres a year. Thappline asks an average of 15 satang per litre from Sri Racha to Suvarnabhumi Airport, Sri Racha to Saraburi and Sri Racha to Lam Luk Ka, Pathum Thani province. The transmission charge for the new Map Ta Phut-Sri Racha section is about 5 satang a litre. The new pipeline also allows refineries in Map Ta Phut to supply more jet fuel to Suvarnabhumi at a rate of 18 satang a litre, equivalent to what was charged refineries for transmission to the old Don Muang Airport. "We cannot charge more, because that could encourage refineries to ship jet fuel through other means. But we cannot charge less or it will hurt us financially," said Jakchai. Thappline now shoulders Bt9 billion worth of debt, which should be paid off within 10 years. The Map Ta Phut-Sri Racha pipeline is the last investment project, worth Bt1.3 billion.
