Short-list of candidates for EC post
The Election Commission (EC) yesterday announced the names of six candidates short-listed for the position of EC secretary-general and set Friday as the date for the hearing.
"The short-listing of candidates was based on qualifications and not cronyism as speculated," EC member Sodsri Satayatham said. The candidates were picked from 51 job applicants by the majority vote of five EC members, Sodsri said. The candidates are Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, a Thammasat University lecturer and secretary-general of the People's Network for Elections in Thailand; Pornchai Theppanya, president of the Politics and Public Administration College of King Prajadhipok's Institute; Suthiphol Thaweechaikarn, deputy secretary of the Supreme Court; Pensri Soranarak, deputy auditor-general; and EC deputy secretary-generals Prawing Khachacheewa and Sataporn Santibutr. The EC is expected to name its new secretary-general by next week.
