Yala protest ends as police agree to withdraw

Some 300 people surrounding a school in Yala's Bannang Sata district ended their protest after authorities agreed to withdraw a station of border patrol police out of their area tomorrow.

The group, most children and women, gathered at Ban Bajoh school in the district at around 1 p.m. on Sunday to force some 30 border police who stationed at the school to get out.

Authorities have deployed some 200 troops into the area to negotiate with the group.

People in Ban Bajoh demanded the police to be removed from their area after a murder case few days ago and local residents believed some police officers might involve in the killing.
