Power lunch

Five core leaders of the Wang Phya Nak faction had lunch with Pracharaj Party leader Snoh Thienthong yesterday, triggering speculation on the faction's future in the wake of quitting the Thai Rak Thai Party.

The five are Pinij Charusombat, Preecha Laohapongchana, Chettha Thanajaro, Suwit Khunkitti and Sutham Saengpratoom.

"We talked politics but could reach any conclusion before the writing of the new constitution," Preecha said.

He said his faction had not decided on its political home, adding he was not

in the position to confirm or deny news reports about a possible alliance with coup makers to form a new party.

Faction member Ekkapap Pholsue said his faction had about 40 to 50 former MPs. He said if coup makers actually offered his faction a chance to join the new party, the talks might be done via Pinij who is presently member of the National Legislative Assembly.

"So far Pinij has not said anything," he said.

He also dismissed speculation that his group and Wang Nam Yom faction were trying to undermine one another in the race to form the new party with the backing of coup makers.
