Apirak gets top marks over floods

Most city residents are happy with Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin's handling of the flooding crisis, a poll revealed yesterday.

The Suan Dusit Poll conducted from October 21 to 31 found that about 72 per cent of 1,095 Bangkok residents - some of whom were themselves flood victims - said they approved of the city's prevention efforts and handling of flood problems.

About 93 per cent also agreed with the decision for officials from the city, the Interior Ministry, the Royal Irrigation Department and the military to join forces in

helping flood-affected residents.

They gave Apirak a score of 7.4 out of 10 for his effectiveness in coping with the flooding.

According to the poll, helping flood-affected families and fixing damaged houses and roads were deemed the most urgent tasks facing the city government.

For long-term solutions, people urged the city to build concrete flood embankments and prepare for future floods sooner.
