Shunji Kato, Thai Fuji Xerox's new president, sees the future in colour.

Thai Fuji Xerox banks on colour for fast sales growth

Thai Fuji Xerox expects turnover to reach Bt5 billion in 2009 by focusing on colour digital products for the document business, its recently appointed president Shunji Kato said yesterday.

At present, 90 per cent of the Japan-based firm's sales come from black-and-white documents from copiers, printers and fax machines.

But the company expects that colour documents will account for 40 per cent of its income in 2009, up 39 per cent from this fiscal year.

That would boost its share from 25 per cent of a total market value of Bt10 billion this fiscal year to 33 per cent of a Bt15-billion market in 2009.

Thai Fuji Xerox is ranked the market leader for the document business in Thailand.

Kato - appointed to his position in June - said the colour-document business was growing at a double-digit annual rate, while black-and-white growth is stuck in single digits.

As a result, the company believes colour products will completely replace black and white in three to five years.

The company expects its sales this fiscal year (to March 2007) to reach Bt3.6 billion, a rise of 10 per cent from the previous year.

To achieve its 2009 target, Kato said the company had to maintain double-digit growth each year by offering new digital technology products that respond to customer demand.

The company also has to improve its efficiency and the quality of its after-sales service.

Thai Fuji Xerox is ready to spend in order to develop its human resources to provide better service, he added.

The firm has seven business units: laser printers, multifunction systems, printers for engineering purposes, high-end print systems, printers for publishing, software and service business, and supplies.

Multifunction systems generate 50 per cent of sales, while laser printers account for about 10 per cent.

Thai Fuji Xerox opened its Bt60-million Document Solution Centre yesterday.

The centre will provide enterprise document, digital production and digital office solutions.
