Lane closure delayed

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has delayed plans to close traffic lanes on Sukhumvit Road to extend the Skytrain in a bid to prevent severe congestion during the back-to-school period.

Traffic police asked the BMA to postpone the scheduled closure of one outbound lane from Sukhumvit Soi 101/1 to the Bang Na intersection from today till November 7. The closure was intended to clear the road for construction of the BTS line.

Police were concerned that closing the lane would worsen traffic on both Sukhumvit and on Phloenchit Road, as the school semester is now open.
