DSI finds foul play in Chaiyaphum

Bidding irregularities engaged in by top officials at the Chaiyaphum Provincial Administrative Organi-sation have caused about Bt175 million in damage, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said yesterday.
Pol Lt-Colonel Thawal Mang-kang, who is heading the investigation, said the case would be referred to the National Counter Corruption Commission for action. According to Thawal, Chaiya-phum Provincial Administrative Organisation chairman Anan Limpakupatathavorn and three other top officials deliberately prevented fair bidding on 151 projects. Three other suspects are Porn-pirun Supich, Pisaparat Prathum and Wipaporn Pinmanee. The four suspects were summoned to acknowledge the charges against them yesterday. Anan denied any wrongdoing. He said his organisation handled bidding projects transparently, and no construction firms in the province had a problem except the company that filed the complaint with the DSI. Anan said the firm was owned by Thitirat Chaiwirat-tana, wife of a former senator.
