Krathongs restricted

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin says the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will not be organising an official Loy Krathong festival this year.
However, the city will open 18 public parks as well as riverside and canal areas for revellers to float their krathongs. The city will also inform the public as to which piers will be safe as locations for celebrating the festival after careful inspection. Foam krathongs and fireworks will be banned in public parks and fireworks vendors in forbidden areas will be fined up to Bt1,000, jailed up to one year, or both. Apirak has also asked people to use only one krathong per family to reduce the number of krathongs from the 250,000 floated last year. He expected the BMA to clear away all floats by the following morning.
