Congress to advise on charter

King Prajadhipok's Institute (KPI) has invited local and overseas legal experts to its congress on the constitution beginning on Friday, institute secretary-general Assoc Professor Noranit Setabutr said yesterday.

The congress, "Constitutional Reform: Comparative Perspectives", will be held from November 3 to 5 at the United Nations Conference Centre, he said.

"The meeting is held every year to share academic knowledge," he said.

This year's topic was set to discuss constitutional matters because of the current situation in Thailand, Noranit said. Consequently, more than 1,000 people had booked for the congress.

Noranit said the institute always invites renowned local and international experts to speak at the congress. Thailand's speakers this year include National Legislative Assembly members Chaianan Samudavanija and Borwornsak Uwanno, former House speaker Bhokin Palakula, and Democrat party senior adviser Chuan Leekpai.

Congress chairman Chingchai Harnjaneluck said the institute would report on the discussions to state agencies involved with drafting the new constitution.
