President of TJA resigns

The President of the Thai Journalists Association (TJA) yesterday handed in his resignation, yielding to growing peer pressure for him to choose between his professional post and membership of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA).

Citing possible further damage to the association if the conflict were to continue, Pattara Khumphitak said in his letter he had chosen to resign as TJA president as well as from the Issara News Institute.

Pattara's appointment as a member of the NLA by the Council of National Security generated uproar from journalists who saw it as a professional conflict of interest. They pressured him to choose one position or the other.
