HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Govt delivers agenda

The government spells out its intended policy and legislative agenda to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Friday.
This will include political reform, economics, national reconciliation, security and foreign affairs. The government has promised to ensure public participation in the drafting of a new constitution. It would introduce new measures and strengthen current laws to combat corruption. The sufficiency economy theory would be at the heart of its initiatives and these would encourage mutual assistance through extended families.
NLA meeting The middle of the week sees the NLA meet to deliberate draft laws and motions on the government. Last week the assembly agreed to hold its weekly meetings on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Surayud in China Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont attends the 15th Asean-China summit at Nanning in China today. Rumours persist that ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will seek a meeting at Nanning. Surayud continues to dismiss this. Surayud made an unscheduled trip to a Songkhla hospital on Friday to visit monks and soldiers injured in a bomb attack in Narathiwat last weekend.
