CPD opposes Mingkwan

The Campaign for Popular Democracy yesterday called on the Council for National Security to prevent former MCOT Plc director Mingkwan Saengsuwan from seeking another term.

Campaign secretary-general Suriyasai Katasila said Mingkwan had served the Thaksin regime while heading MCOT.

He resigned following the coup after broadcasting a message from Thaksin on September 19.

He should not be allowed to apply for the position again, Suriyasai said.

He said Prime Minister's Office Minister Thirapat Serirangsan had created public confusion by allowing Mingkwan to apply for his old job.

Thirapat's action suggested the council did not regard Mingkwan as having done anything wrong, Suriyasai said, adding that Mingkwan had used radio stations and television Channel 9 to boost the Thaksin regime. "I don't understand what Thirapat is thinking to allow Mingkwan to apply for the post again. Is there nobody else who is qualified?" said Suriyasai.

If Mingkwan were to secure the position, the campaign and other consumer groups would commence legal action in the Administrative Court seeking MCOT's de-listing and return to state control, Suriyasai said.
