Surayud slower than Thaksin in tackling problems: survey

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont and his Cabinet enjoy a better image than the Thaksin Shinawatra government, but its weak point is acting too slowly on people's problems, according to the findings of an Abac Poll survey released Sunday.
Assumption University's Abac Poll Research Centre questioned 1,864 people across the country from October 2428 about their views on the Surayud and Thaksin governments. The respondents were asked to compare the Surayud and Thaksin governments on five issues. More than 60 per cent of the respondents said they thought the current government was more moral than the previous one, 8.6 per cent saw no difference and 5.5 per cent considered the Thaksin government more moral. About 51 per cent said the Surayud government was more informal than the previous one as regards ceremony and entourages, 17.9 per cent thought they were the same and 10 per cent thought the Surayud administration was more formal. About 43 per cent believed the Surayud government was less biased towards capitalist business interests than its predecessor, 25.8 per cent thought they were the same and 14.4 per cent said the Thaksin government was less biased. The Surayud government compared least favourably with Thaksin government regarding quick action on people's problems. Only about 38 per cent of respondents felt the current government was a quick to resolve problems. About 21 per cent thought they were the same and 26.4 per cent thought the previous government was better. Abac Poll also questioned respondents on 10 points of comparison between Surayud and Thaksin. Almost 44 per cent of respondents gave Surayud was a more reliable leader than Thaksin, while 21.2 per cent thought they were the same and 5.8 per cent thought Thaksin made a better leader. Meanwhile, 43.4 of respondents felt that Surayud was more honest and moral than Thaksin, while 19.8 per cent thought there was no difference and 4.6 per cent said Thaksin was more honest and moral. Only 22.8 per cent thought that Surayud is quicker than Thaksin in solving people's troubles. Twentyfive per cent felt they were the same and 12 per cent thought Thaksin was quicker. Regarding their image abroad, only 22.6 per cent thought Surayud's image was better than Thaksin's, while 13.2 per cent felt that Thakin's image was better and 28 per cent thought there was no difference.
