Million-baht reward for US fugitive

A Bt1-million bounty was offered yesterday for a Thai-American fugitive wanted dead or alive in connection with the 1994 murder of his pregnant Thai wife in the US.
He is believed to be still in Thailand. The reward will be given even to informers who can direct police to the grave or remains of fugitive Saner Wongguan after DNA confirmation of his identity, deputy National Police chief General Israphan Snitwongse said yesterday. Both Thai and US authorities have been searching for Saner, a former US Air Force first sergeant, but he may have altered his appearance or changed his name to avoid detection, according to information attached with an arrest warrant that was issued in Thailand. Police said Saner, who is known to be a recluse, could have left everything to his relatives and entered the monkhood in the Northeast two years ago. Contact numbers are (086) 066 1782/1788, or the US Embassy's (02) 205 4108. Leads can also be emailed to DSRSOBangkok@state.gov. Saner, also known as Buck and Shorty, speaks English fluently. He is 59 years old, stands 150-centimetres tall and weighs 61 kilograms. He has a 3.5cm scar on his chin and a scar near his left wrist. The suspect entered Thailand on January 14, 1994, a few days after Marine County police in California found the battered body of his wife, Sopha.
