Young money wanted at Bestbuys fair

NCC Exhibition Organiser, the local company hosting the 10-day Thailand Bestbuys 2006 fair, says it hopes to attract young people, in a bid to boost spending.
This year, the fair organisers are targeting teenagers, young adults in their early 20s and workers. This is the seventh year the fair will be held, and Bussaya Prakobthong, group project manager for NCC, yesterday said she expected 200,000 visitors and sales of at least Bt300 million, 20 per cent more than last year. About 500 companies will man 750 booths at the fair, which runs from December 1-10 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Bussaya said NCC was asking major exhibitors to cooperate in bringing their brands to the attention of young consumers. These include the Central Marketing Group, which is participating for the first time; the Minor Group, an importer of fashion clothing and accessories; and the Saha Pathanapibul Group. She said teenagers were spending more on big-name brands like Esprit, Bossini, Sinequanone, Giordano, Adda Jeans, Jousse, Elle, G2000, fcuk, U2 and Miss Sixty&Energie. The fair will be divided into 12 categories, including stationery, home decorations, cards, jewellery, kitchenware, accessories, flowers and souvenirs. Discounts will range from 30-80 per cent off retail prices. International exhibitors from China and Vietnam, countries the NCC unsuccessfully attempted to woo in previous years, will attend.
