AEC targets Pojaman deal

The Assets Examination Committee (AEC) is planning to probe a suspicious land deal involving Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra.
The wife of deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra allegedly purchased a plot on Ratchadaphisek Road from the Asset Management Corporation (AMC) at an "exceptionally low price".The AMC had bought the land for Bt1.4 billion and Pojaman won it at auction for Bt700 million. The Office of Auditor-General was reported to have evidence that two of three other bidders had offered bids higher than the price at which it was sold. The other bidders were disqualified. Critics have said the auction showed signs of "policy-level corruption" and noted the land had a market appraisal of Bt2 billion. The AEC would also consider investigation into two other projects - ambulance procurement by the Public Health Ministry, and tax avoidance in the national lottery sale.
