NTC deputy Kulit resigns

Kulit Sirisombat, deputy secretary-general of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), has resigned from his post, to work as an adviser to Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um. An NTC source said Kulit's resignation would take effect at the end of the month.
Kulit assumed the post in April of last year. The source said Kulit felt he could not realise his potential at the NTC, which wants to limit its role to administrative affairs. The NTC is responsible for such administrative tasks as collecting regulatory fees, analysing data on the telecommunications industry and forecasting service demand. Currently, the NTC has about 600 employees, most of whom have worked there since it was the Post and Telegraph Department, which became the NTC two years ago. Meanwhile, Information and Communications Technology Ministry permanent secretary Kraisorn Pornsutee will resign as chairman of the board at CAT Telecom and a director of TOT following his nomination as a senator. CAT is currently under investigation by the Auditor-General's Office, which is trying to determine whether the company's awarding of a contract to Hutchison-CAT to market Code Division Multiple Access 2000 1-x broadband cellular service in 25 provinces was in line with regulations governing state-private joint investments.
