Tribunal judges will have to declare assets

The National Counter Corruption Commission yesterday ruled that judges of the Constitution Tribunal have to submit asset declarations.
NCCC chairman Panthep Klanarongran said the Constitution Tribunal judges had to comply with the NCCC law and submit asset declarations for themselves, their spouses and minor children, in accordance with Article 35 of the interim constitution. The provision also stipulates that any matter prescribed by law that is under the authority of the Constitution Court or problems regarding whether any law is in contravention of the constitution shall be considered to be under the purview of the Constitution Tribunal. The NCCC has yet to decide whether members of the Asset Examination Committee and National Legislative Assembly should also be made to declare their assets. NCCC commissioner Klanarong Chantik said the NCCC would today make public information about the assets of the Thaksin cabinet at its website, www.nccc.go.th, and at the NCCC office on the 20th floor of Thanabhumi Building. Article 39 of the NCCC Act 1999 stipulates that the Constitution Court chairman, Constitution Court judges, their wives and underage children must submit asset declarations to the NCCC when they assume their posts, every three years while they hold the position, and three years after they step down.
