'Many more dodgy deals'

Democrat Party deputy leader Alongkorn Pollabutr yesterday vowed to continue his campaign to expose corruption at Suvarnabhumi Airport despite reaching an out-of-court settlement in a related legal battle.
"The settlement in the court battle has no bearing on my crusade against corruption," he said. Alongkorn said he would focus on four suspicious projects at the newly opened airport. The projects are the Bt1.3-billion installation of the roof of the passenger terminal, the Bt4-billion contract awarded to an independent power supplier, the Bt534-million contract for baggage carts and the Bt507-million contract for garbage disposal. Alongkorn reached an agreement with Yaowaret Shinawatra, a younger sister of deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra, to drop all legal action against each other. Yaowaret agreed to drop all charges against Alongkorn in light of the political situation following the September 19 military coup. Their legal battle began when Alongkorn claimed Yaowaret had extorted bribes to rig the bidding for the construction of a car park at the airport. Among other legal action, Yaowaret sued Alongkorn for libel and demanded Bt500 million in damages. Alongkorn responded by suing her for filing false charges.
