Afet trading disrupted in morning session

Due to technical problems, the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (Afet) announced a temporary closure of trading in yesterday's morning session before resuming in the afternoon.

"On the morning of October 19, 2006, the bourse examined the daily trading system and found that we had technical problems which resulted from system improvement for higher efficiency.

Thus, to ensure that the system would work correctly and accurately, we closed trading in the morning, in order to examine the entire system, including the trading system, the settlement system and the back-office system," Afet president Napaporn Kurupasutachai said yesterday in the statement.

She added that the trading system at Afet was centralised, combining both the commodity futures market and the brokers' system.

The technical problem was caused

by some incompatible information

between the bourse's and the brokers' systems.

She said such problems were not significant, but in order to be prudent, Afet needed to examine the entire system closely to ensure security for the next trading session. After the examination, the bourse resumed trading in the afternoon.
