Boonsak in quest of 7th crown

[BADMINTON] Local ace Boonsak Ponsana will be out to retain the men's singles title for the seventh successive time in the Bt250,000 SCG All Thailand Championships, which will take place from Tuesday to Sunday at The Mall Ngamwongwan's MCC Hall.

More than 200 players from all over the country will battle it out for national rankings in the six-day meet.

The winners will be awarded His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit trophies. The mixed doubles final match will be televised live on iTV from 3pm on October 29.

The event will serve as a warm-up tournament for national team, which will participate in the Asian Games in December in Qatar.

Apart from Boonsak, the squad comprises Soratja Chansrisukot, Salakjit Ponsana, Monthila Meemek, Kulchala Voravichitchaikul, Duang-Anong Aroonkesorn, Poompat Sapkulchananart, Patapol Ngernsrisuk, Sudket Prapakamol, Saralee Thungthongkam and Sathinee Chankrachangwong.

Meanwhile in Guangzhou, Boonsak breezed into the second round of the six star China Open championships after a convincing win over Brazilian Tjong Alex Yuwan 21-2 21-5 on Tuesday.

Countryman Poompat also came from behind to beat Yeoh Kay-bin of Malaysia 19-21 21-19 21-17 in the first round.
