TRT not giving up hope: Chaturon

Thai Rak Thai's caretaker leader Chaturon Chaisang said yesterday the party expected a lot more defections - but it was not downhearted and had not lost hope.
After the Muslim politicians in the Wadah faction led by Wan Muhamad Noor Matha submitted their resignations, Chaturon said the party had problems because it was too large but it was ready now to be a smaller party."We will have more disturbances ahead but we will never be disheartened. We understand party members who want to leave and will welcome them back if they decide to return to the party,'' he said. Party registrar Saman Lertwongrat said 101 members have left the party. Chaturon welcomed the Council of National Security's decision to allow political gatherings of more than five people. The party has asked the Election Commission if it can meet to select a new executive board, because although the Cabinet approved party meetings, a CNS order banned political activity. Chaturon said the government led by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont might meet obstacles if it stays in power too long. The Nation
