IN BRIEF
Commerce Minister to meet with giant multinational retailers soon

Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet will soon meet with Thailand's giant retailers to seek cooperation to solve the problems of small retailers who are being forced out of business by the multinational enterprises.
Krirk-krai said that the problem has been happening for a long time. The government must call for multinational cooperation before implementing the Retail Business Law. The Internal Trade Department has proposed a draft of the Retail Business Law to the minister for Cabinet approval soon. - The Nation.
Firms pin hopes on 'Bangkok Fashion City' Fashion-related firms have high hopes that the "Bangkok Fashion City" project will be continued by the current government. Bangkok Fashion City's nine subprojects, which were initiated by the previous government, started in 2003. The last project will end in May next year. The budget for all the projects was Bt1.2 billion. The nine subprojects emphasise creating human resources in the fashion industry (clothing, jewellery and leather), starting up and strengthening businesses, and promoting a fashion image for Bangkok. Fashion firms suggested that the government carefully consider each of the nine projects and adjust them for the benefit of the Thai fashion industry in the long run. Fashion firms' executives yesterday reached a consensus on educating people about the fashion industry as well as on ways to run the fashion business to catch global trends. - The Nation
