Sudarat on the mend

Thai Rak Thai Party deputy leader Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan yesterday underwent surgery for a haemorrhoid problem at Lerdsin Hospital.

Following the operation Sudarat looked tired but still asked reporters for the latest political news - and especially events concerning her party.

A reporter told Sudarat that Chaturon Chaisang, the acting party leader, would form a working party to investigate the government. Sudarat quipped, "Chaturon looks very energetic from the start."

Several Thai Rak Thai members visited Sudarat at the hospital, including deputy party spokeswoman Sansanee Nakpong and former Bangkok MP Jakrapob Penkair.

Sansanee told reporters that Sudarat's condition was not serious but doctors have asked her to stay in the hospital for the time being, adding that Sudarat had worked very hard and had neglected to take proper care of herself.
