Late news :Sugar prices to drop next year

Amnuay Patise, director-general of the Thai Sugar Millers' Corp, said last week that sugar prices next year would tend to drop as large harvests flood the market.

In the 2005-2006 sugar-cane season, the 46 local sugar producers used 45 million tonnes of sugar cane. But they are expected to need 59.7 million tonnes in the next season.

Globally, sugar prices are expected to slide from Bt18-Bt19 per kilogram to Bt14-Bt15 next year, due to flourishing production in Thailand, India and Brazil.
