Special OAG panel for Nibhat case

The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) will set up a special panel to look into the charge of being unusually rich against former Finance Ministry deputy permanent secretary Nibhat Bhukkana-sut, its deputy spokesman Poramet Intarachumnum said yesterday.
He said the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) would submit the case to the OAG because the suspect could not prove where his money came from. According to established NCCC procedure, the OAG will then file a case in the Civil Court, asking it to seize the money. He said the present charge was unrelated to a previous criminal charge against the suspect, when the then NCCC had alleged corruption by Nibhat with the OAG in 2001. The office had dropped the case for lack of evidence. On Thursday, the NCCC found adequate grounds to seek the prosecution of Nibhat as he could not explain some Bt93 million in his accounts. The NCCC will submit the investigation file to the OAG in two weeks' time.
