CNS ready to reveal assembly

The list of people qualified to sit in the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) could be announced by tomorrow, the chief of the Council for National Security (CNS) said yesterday.

General Sonthi Boonyaratglin said he had met Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont on Monday to consult him on the selection of NLA members.

"The members will be picked from among various professionals from around the country," he said.

The assembly will serve as a parliament and comprise no more than 250 members, who will approve the final draft of the new constitution before submitting it for His Majesty the King's endorsement.

Surayud has reportedly already handed the NLA list to His Majesty. Renowned law expert Kanit na Nakhon is expected to be its chairman, while Thammasat University rector Surapol Nitikraipoj will serve as an adviser to the assembly.
