Man shot dead, monk hurt

In more violence in the deep South yesterday, one man was shot dead and a monk injured in separate attacks

In Sungai Kolok district in Narathiwat, a Buddhist monk was injured when a small bomb went off beside the road while he was seeking alms from local villagers. In neighbouring Pattani province, school security guard Waeloh Waemoosor, 30, was shot dead while going home after work. His gun and mobile phone were stolen. Police believed Muslim insurgents were behind his murder.

More than 1,500 people have been killed since violence flared in the three southernmost provinces in January 2004.
