LPG pickup goes up in flames

A pickup truck that ran on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) caught fire while parked in Ratchaburi province.

The incident has kept owners of LPG-equipped vehicles on edge after a series of fires reported. The problem has stemmed from the modifications operated by new mechanics not good enough in their craft, as many new LPG garages open to cope with increasing demand of motorists who still continue to have their vehicles modified to run on the cheaper alternative fuel.

Police initially speculated that the fire was caused by the faulty installation of an LPG-feeding device to the Mitsubishi truck, causing a gas leak. But owner Chaiyarat Tanchasawas said he never had a problem with his vehicle running on LPG.

The fire started when the car was parked in the shade of a tree. The vehicle was fully burnt after 30 minutes.
