Flooding level in Nakhon Sawan's highest in 60 years : RID

Nakhon Sawan becomes the latest province submerged on Wednesday after nightlong of heavy rains as 17 provinces have been inundated and almost two million people affected.

Samart Chokanapitak, director general of Royal Irrigation Department, said that most part of Nakhon Sawan is under water on Wednesday after nightlong of heavy rains on Tuesday.

"The floods in Nakhon Sawan now is more serious than in 1995. The water level is the highest in 60 years," he said. The water level in the province is now reaching two metres.

Maybe the province authorities could not handle the situation, making them to drain water to downstream, he said, if in that case downstream provinces, including Bangkok, have to reinforce the water barriers.

As of Wednesday, at least 17 provinces have suffered from the floods. The situation could be worsened as Weather Department has predicted more heavy rains on Wednesday afternoon and the following weeks.
