Thanulux eyes move to Surin

Thanulux Plc is likely to expand its garment plant in the northeastern province of Surin in order to benefit from low wages in the area, an Industry Ministry official said yesterday.
Authorities in the province have said they would facilitate the company's production at all levels. If it expands, Thanulux will concentrate on manufacturing "Cotta Zilk", its combined silk-cotton fabric. Arthit Wutthikaro, inspector-general of the Industry Ministry, said yesterday textile exporters were expanding their manufacturing bases upcountry, particularly in the Northeast, where a large and cheap labour pool is available. Moreover, he said Surin produced quality silk. "The possible investment [by textile companies] will encourage people to grow mulberry trees, which will generate income for them," he said.
