S Korea hurdle for Thailand

[VOLLEYBALL] Thailand take on South Korea today with an eye on a semi-final place in the 13th Asian Women's Under-19 Volleyball Championship at The Mall Nakhon Ratchasima's MCC Hall.
In other quarter-final matches, Japan play Vietnam, China take on Australia and Chinese Taipei face New Zealand. Japan, China and Chinese Taipei have a better chance of advancing, while Thailand will have an uphill task against South Korea. The Koreans are one of the formidable teams in the competition. They performed superbly in their previous matches despite going down to China in three hard-fought sets and also to Chinese Taipei in a five-set thriller. The hosts, on the other hand, were way below their best against Japan and went down tamely in straight sets. "It will be a do-or-die match for my girls. It's early to predict the result but my girls will try their best," Thai head coach Pollawat Toomanee said. "The girls have to be at the top of their form and refrain from making hasty mistakes," he said. Meanwhile, Indonesia yesterday pounded Sri Lanka in a totally one-sided battle 25-10 25-8 25-12. In the 9th-place play-off tomorrow, Indonesia will go up against India, to whom they lost in five sets on Thursday. India yesterday hammered Singapore 25-13 25-20 25-17.
