Microsoft makes debut with sales of consumer hardware

For the first time Microsoft has officially launched hardware accessories on the consumer market in Thailand.
Derek Brown, marketing director of Microsoft (Thailand), said Thailand is a unique and emerging market. The firm will sell four new product categories - wireless entertainment desktop devices, wireless mouses, communications equipment, and gaming devices. Included in the range are the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000, Wireless Optical Mouse 2000, LifeCam VX 1000 and Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows. Ben Tan, regional director for Southeast Asia and Korea at Microsoft Singapore Pte, said the firm believed that Thailand is a big market. It also plans in the next five years to launch hardware products which will integrate with high bandwidth equipment to enhance communication devices. Tan also said the firm in the near future will provide hardware products which integrate with other hardware, software services, Windows Vista, Office 2007 and games for Windows. It will provide communications devices, gaming devices, and entertainment devices for the consumer market. However, the firm is also studying selling the Xbox 360 in Thailand. He said the company had recently spent US$6 million (Bt225 million) on hardware research and development.
