Music fans can create albums for themselves

Music fans can forget the frustration of having to buy a whole album just for the few songs they like.
A new customised CD service will give music lovers the chance to compile their own albums, selecting only the songs they want. The tailor-made service is being launched by GMM Digital Domain, a subsidiary of GMM Grammy, and will be available at True Corporation's coffee-shop chain. "Customers can create a personalised album from more than 20,000 songs by over 100 GMM Grammy singers," Suwat Damrongchaitham, GMM Digital Domain's managing director, said. He said the customised CD service would initially be offered as a pilot test at two coffee shops by the end of this year. The company is now working on the service price structure. "First we will offer the customised music album service on CD, but we also plan to expand the idea to cover gadgets such as MP3 players as well," he said. He said the new service targets customers who want to make their own music album but have no experience in downloading songs by themselves. The company will also provide a song download service at kiosks dotted around the city. The service, called iKey, allows customers to download their favourite song or music video onto their mobile phone or MP3 player. It plans to set up around 2,000 such kiosks nationwide by the end of the year. Customers can choose to sign up for a subscription package of Bt119 per month for unlimited downloads or pay per song at a cost of Bt35 per song. "Our customers and teenagers in general are becoming more digital in their habits. They like to use new technology - MP3 players or their mobile phones - to listen to music," Suwat said.
