Jada joins stock exchange

The Stock Exchange of Thailand has appointed Siam Commercial Bank president Jada Wattanasiritham to its board of governors, replacing PTT Plc president Prasert Bunsumpun, who resigned in late August.
Her tenure began on Tuesday and will end in May 2008, SET executive vice president Suthichai Chitvanich announced yesterday.Prasert resigned in August after consumer groups asked the Administrative Court to rule against PTT's privatisation. "Khunying Jada has competence, knowledge, capability and up to 39 years' experience in the banking sector. Besides, she is respected by all related parties for her outstanding track record and farsighted vision. Her appointment will benefit the direction of the SET's operations," Suthichai said. The SET's board of governors has 11 members. Five are appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, five are selected by the stock exchange's members, and the other is the SET president. Each governor has a two-year term and cannot fill the post for two terms in a row. Jada's fellow governors are SET chairman Vijit Supinit, Trinity Securities president Kampanart Lohacharoenvanich, the director of the real-estate business programme at Thammasat University's faculty of commerce and accountancy, Niputh Jitprasonk, National Securities managing director Asvini Tailanga, DBS Vickers Securities (Thailand) chief executive Pattera Dilokrungthirapop, Kiatnakin Securities chief executive Suraphol Kulsiri, the dean of the School of Economics at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Sauwanee Thairungroj, True Move Plc director Vallobh Vimolvanich, MFC Asset Management president Pichit Akrathit, and SET president Patareeya Benjapolchai.
