AOT to expand Suvarnabhumi bus terminal

Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is preparing to expand its bus terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport so that more buses can use the facility at the one time.
President Chotisak Aspaviriya said yesterday that the terminal, which serves Bangkok Mass Transit Authority buses and shuttle buses, had a maximum capacity of 500 buses a day. He said the terminal needed to be bigger in case the number of buses that use it increases.Five days after Suvarnabhumi Airport opened, Chotisak said many systems, including check-in and baggage handling, were functioning more smoothly. He said that during the busiest time on Sunday night, airport systems were operating faster than on the opening day. Chotisak admitted, however, that as a result of a large number of people coming to view the airport there are presently not enough toilets. He said he expected the number of visitors to reduce over time. Meanwhile, the president of Thai Airways International Plc, Apinan Sumanaseni, said 10 fights had experienced delays longer than 30 minutes yesterday morning as a result of problems with the luggage conveyor system. He said the airline had temporarily solved the problem by hiring extra staff from Thai Airport Ground Services Co Ltd. It has also ordered more luggage conveyance vehicles, which will be delivered in a few weeks.
